Cash at the door means a float, a queue, a person you trust counting money instead of watching the room, and no idea how many are coming until they arrive. Selling online flips all of that: the money is in before the night, the headcount is on your phone, and the door is a scan. Here is how to set it up in South Africa.
Set your ticket types
Start with the types of ticket you want to sell. Keep the list short and the names obvious:
- General: standing or open seating, your everyday ticket.
- Seated or table: a reserved spot, priced higher.
- VIP: the front, the perks, the premium price.
Set a price and a quantity for each. The quantity is also your safety net: once a type sells out it stops selling, so you never sell more seats than the venue holds.
Take payment by card or instant EFT
Buyers pay online by card or by instant EFT, through a payment provider registered in South Africa. The money clears before the event, so on the night there is nothing to collect and nothing to count. No float, no cash box, no shrinkage.
QR tickets go out automatically
As soon as a payment clears, the buyer gets a ticket with a QR code. It lands on their phone, ready for the door. You do not print anything, post anything, or keep a guest list at a table with a highlighter.
Run a door that moves
- Put your fastest person on the scanner and a second person directing the queue.
- Scan each ticket as guests arrive. Valid codes go green, used or fake ones do not.
- Watch your live headcount climb on your own screen, so you always know how full the room is.
A scanned door clears a queue several times faster than checking names off a list, which matters when two hundred people show up in the same fifteen minutes.
Tickets and voting together
If your event is a pageant or a competition, your ticket buyers and your voters are mostly the same crowd. Run the vote to build the audience over the weeks before, then sell them tickets to the finale from the same event. The setup for the vote is in how to set up online voting, and the whole event start to finish is in how to run a pageant in South Africa.
What you keep
Listing is free and there is no monthly fee. iKhetha takes 15% of ticket sales and you keep 85%, paid straight into your bank account through a registered South African provider. See pricing for the detail, or set up your tickets and share the link.
